The celebrated British actress Mirren, previously winner of an Oscar statuette, several BAFTA honors, Globes trophies, multiple Emmy accolades, plus a Tony, will soon receive another major award to her collection: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Mirren, 80, formerly made a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will accept this honor in a ceremony January 8, three days before the Golden Globes main event occur, as part of an event billed by the Globes as Golden Eve.

This will also include the awarding of the organization’s Carol Burnett honor for small-screen contributions, the honoree for which has yet to be announced. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Dame Helen represents a powerhouse performer, and her career is absolutely extraordinary,” stated the Golden Globes president, Helen Hoehne. “Her transcendent performances and dedication to acting persistently influence numerous actors and viewers as well. We are deeply honored to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Career Highlights

The star gained prominence during the seventies with key roles in theater in the West End of London and through the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her lead performance in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Other important films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her role as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a character she reprised back in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings between the queen and prime minister Margaret Thatcher, and for which she received a Tony Award in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Subsequent cinematic works feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Her role in the Netflix adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and awards buzz is building around her performance as a dying matriarch in Kate Winslet’s first directing effort, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, she will appear portraying Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations will be declared on 8 December, with Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
