Our starting point to check the location from which the images originated was based on posts saying the blast happened on Yasenevaya Street in the southern part of the capital city of Russia. We used street-view imagery on Google Maps and the local mapping service Yandex Maps to corroborate the unique yellow colour of a adjacent apartment building captured in the video. Locating additional buildings, streetlights and the street layout confirmed the exact location the footage were captured. We also checked that the videos were recent and that the images had not been digital alteration.
