This winter transfer window is always a period of significant speculation and possible major deals. A number of high-profile players are being connected to transfers away from their present clubs. Here is a look at some of the top figures who might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Recent developments suggest Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to alternative targets, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Anfield falling through. With his contract set to expire in the close season, January is the club's final chance to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, including City and several European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. However, a January exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has had starting minutes limited at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the side's top scorer last season, he has begun only a handful of league games. It is understood the London outfit would be willing to consider a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth are currently leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

Spurs rate the Welsh international at around £40m.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal midfielder could be set for a return to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now only 28, and with his contract ending in the summer, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under the manager Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a winter exit seems highly probable. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential destination, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of making the England World Cup. But, securing a deal poses significant challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages render any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as interested parties.

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ side. The teenager is heavily tipped to make a major move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
