The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
