The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
