The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
